Poem for July 3rd (& Larkin Poe’s Covers)

hearing larkin poe ‘wade’ before seeing
being with them before knowing them
we was blind as willie johnson
………….(a hundred years ago)
………….(in the arms of Our Mother)

hearing what Studs T wanted me to hear
“ALL her uncles is musicians”
so how could we be [“culturally deprived”]
in the cotton patchshe won’t even say the words

all the significant differences
between the color’d and the pale
are social & cultural & personal & . . .
everything delightfull obfuscated by “race” mumbojumbo

genes just about the same
not we be chimps they be bonobos
we be the same since habilis became erectus
we be one species coming out of Africa

wave after wave after wave
all this   long before warring
all this   long before slaving
or any kind of property for that matter

pom pom pompom poem poem poempoem
feel the pulse feel the classless groan
attacked by class societies
stolen from their home

invisible man became visible
not so long ago
now we can see each other
and make amends to the bendin’end

treat each person as potential friend
make peace the highest priority
……………………the biggest trend
we are Humo Ludens Collaborans
is the message    hit send

Editor’s Note: Charlie Keil likes the live version of Larkin Poe playing “Wade in the Water.” That’s posted below but first comes their homey Stones cover…
