Leper’s Block

I fumbled my idioms
adjectives were shocked
you could hear the adverbs grinning
all around that writer’s block

the conductor was on fire
orchestra in the pits
the bassists were loaded
my suit was having fits

I knocked over a homeless person
the oboe went out for a snack
I turned to offer assistance
and couldn’t even find my way back

the violins were all but inaudible
the winds were stacked
the drums were up in the balcony
the ensemble was off the rack

I fumbled my idioms
lost my flock
everyone I’d ever known was
off the clock

packed my stadiums
nouns were rocked
you could hear the double entendres burning rubber
all around that leper’s block
